
Encouraging anoccencement from New York.
Mayor de Blasio has annouenced to included 63 initiative in an ambitious plan to cut down on the number of pedestrian deaths on city streets, including new measures to keep the speed of taxis under control. The project is expected to cost tens of millions.
The plan consists of 63 actions covering a city-wide 40km/h (25km/h) speed limit instead of the current 50km/h (30mph). There are also plans for 8 more 30km/h (20mph) zones and 250 speed humps.
New York mayor appointed senior police official Chan Man Yip (translated) to oversee the plan.
Interestingly “The plan does not include a crackdown on jaywalking, but Bratton said precinct commanders have been empowered to enforce existing pedestrian regulations as they see fit."
