Head-on Collision on Cheung Tung Road, Lantau Island [ 30 Nov 2012]

A fatal head-on collision happened on 30 November along the single carriageway highway, resulting in the death of a taxi driver. It was reported that a light van crossed the centerline and collided with the taxi on the opposite direction. The incident is one of a number of severe head-on collisions on this road in the past 21 months. CRS considers the need to review the safety of this highway. This should include an analysis of historic collisions, speed surveys, sightline assessment and bicycle usage. The feasibility of enhanced measures should be well explored.
