CRS urges Government to cover Road Safety in the Forthcoming Study on Public Transport [December 2014]

On 12 December 2014, CRS submitted a letter urging Transport and Housing Bureau to cover Road Safety in the scope of their forthcoming Public Transport Strategy Study (PTSS).  CRS pointed out the unacceptable rates of certain collision types among public transport vehicles, notably buses, minibuses and taxis. Additionally, the risk of certain catastrophic crash scenarios were highlighted. CRS considers it timely to review safety performance of public transport in a comprehensive way. It is pointed out that new approaches, notably ISO39001, GPS based driving monitoring system and better passenger protection should be taken aboard.
